Everything you need to know about time-controlled secret sharing
Getting Started
Popular
Download the Meteoro mobile app to create secrets. In the app, enter your secret content, set an activation time (when it becomes accessible) and an expiration time (when public access ends). Your content is encrypted in your device before being sent to our servers. You'll receive a unique link to share that can be viewed in any web browser.
Before activation time: The link shows 'This secret is not yet active' message. During active period: Recipients can view the decrypted content. After expiration: Public access is revoked and the link shows 'This secret has expired'. You can still view your secrets in the app.
Meteoro automatically handles timezone conversions. When you set times, they're stored in UTC and displayed in each viewer's local timezone. For example, if you set 2:00 PM EST, someone in London will see 7:00 PM GMT.
No! Meteoro uses token-based access. No registration or login required. Just create your secret and share the link. We believe in privacy-first design.
Security & Privacy
Your secret key is like a master password that encrypts all your messages in the Meteoro app. It's used to log into the app (along with your username) and to encrypt/decrypt your secrets. This key never leaves your device and we never see it. If you lose this key, you cannot recover your messages - keep it safe!
You can create a new username with a new secret key, but you cannot change an existing username. If you create a new account, you won't have access to secrets created with your old username and key. For security, there's no way to migrate secrets between accounts.
Yes! Every secret comes with instant revocation capability. You can immediately revoke public access to any link before its expiration time. Once revoked, recipients can no longer access it, but you can still view the secret in your app.
No. We follow a strict no-logs policy. We don't store decryption keys, we don't log content, and we don't track who accesses your links. We only store encrypted data and metadata like expiration times.
Usage & Limits
Meeting credentials that expire after meetings, event access codes that activate on event day, temporary passwords for guests, API keys for debugging sessions, one-time passwords with time limits, or any sensitive information that should only be accessible for a specific time period.
Free users can create secrets up to 10KB in size (about 10,000 characters) with up to 10 active secrets at a time. This is enough for passwords, access codes, API keys, and notes. Premium plans offer larger sizes and unlimited active secrets.
No, secrets cannot be edited once created for security reasons. If you need to change something, revoke the current secret in the app and create a new one. This ensures the integrity and security of shared information.
You can set activation and expiration times anywhere from 1 hour to 30 days apart. The minimum active period is 1 hour, and the maximum is 30 days. After expiration, public access is revoked but you retain access to your secrets in the app.
Troubleshooting
The secret hasn't reached its activation time yet. Check the activation time shown on the page - it will display in your local timezone. The content will become accessible automatically when that time arrives.
The public link has expired and recipients can no longer access it. However, as the owner, you can still view the secret in your Meteoro app. If you need to share it again, you can create a new time-controlled link with fresh activation and expiration times.
Yes! Meteoro automatically converts all times to your local timezone. The activation and expiration times you see are adjusted for your location. The secret will activate and expire at the exact same moment worldwide.
No, revocation is permanent for public access. Once revoked, recipients can no longer access the link. However, you still have access to the secret in your app and can create a new shareable link if needed.
